Fort de Douaumont -Champs de Bataille de la 1ère Guerre Mondiale
En 1916, la bataille de Verdun fut l’une des principales batailles de la Première Guerre mondiale, au cours de laquelle la ville résista à tous les assauts.
Le Fort de Douaumont est occupé par les allemands en février 1916 . Des attaques et bombardements incessants font beaucoup de dégâts (679 morts sont ensevelis dans une galerie murée).
Il comprend 3 niveaux de galeries , casemates , observatoires et tourelles
Avec 7km de galeries , des chambrées , poste de commandement, boulangerie, cimetière etc ...
Les galeries sont humides et l'eau suinte partout .

Fort Douaumont - Battlefields of the 1st World war

In 1916, the battle of Verdun was one of the main battles of the First World war, during which the city resisted all the assaults.
The Fort of Douaumont is occupied by German in February, 1916. Attacks and ceaseless bombardments make many damages (679 deaths are buried in a walled up gallery).
It includes 3 levels of galleries, bunkers, look-out observatories and turrets with 7 km of galleries, barracks, headquarte, bakery, cementeries ...
Galleries are wet and the water oozes everywhere.
